With the Saints 3rd round draft pick (95th overall) they selected Jimmy Graham, Tight End from Miami (FL)
National Football Post: A former college basketball player who has as much upside as any tight end in the draft. Is dripping with upside but is still a work in progress.
We will find out in a few minutes who the Saints will pick in this 2010 draft class. The Indianapolis Colts are currently on the clock and the Saints pick next. See you in a few minutes.
It will be interesting to see if the Saints go on the defensive side of the ball or if they elect to pick up on Colt McCoy.
Alright, the Colts have made their pick and the Saints are now on the clock.
OK. So, the Saints stayed on the defensive side of the ball. It just wasn’t a position I was expecting. The Saints picked Patrick Robinson, a cornerback from Florida Sate.
Robinson is a gifted size/speed athlete who has the skill set needed to start at the next level. However, he isn’t real technically sound with his footwork and lacks ideal instincts when asked to turn and find the football.
I really felt the Saints needed some additional speed and another play maker at the linebacker position. It really surprises me that they went with a defensive back when I feel that they are really solid at the cornerback position.
Who Dat Saints Fans – I know this post has nothing to do about football but it is related to eating in New Orleans. And you can’t get much more “Who Dat” than that!

Quarterback Jake Delhomme
But not in New Orleans
Former Saints Backup Quarterback Jake Delhomme has found a new home, in of all places, Cleveland. Delhomme, signed a new contract with the Browns late Saturday.
It’s funny, because the Cajun Gambit (No relation to the Cajun Cannon) and I were eating at the Hooter’s Restaurant in Gretna on Friday and we were discussing this very fact. I told the Gambit that I almost wrote an article last week after Delhomme was released from the Carolina Panthers. I thought to myself, “Hey, maybe you should write an article about the possibilty of Jake returning to New Orleans as a Saints Backup”. But then I thought, is that really a possibilty? Well, Lo and behold, it did become a possibility, as Delhomme was scheduled to make a visit with the Saints for a workout.
Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis had previously stated that Delhomme’s visit was more of an exploratory visit, to see if Delhomme was interested in a backup role with the team. Come on, we all know that Drew Brees is New Orleans’ franchise quarterback. And Jake is certainly entering the “backup” stage of his career. At least that is what we all thought.
With Cleveland, Jake will try to resurrect his career as a starting quarterback. That’s right, I said the “Starting Quarterback” with the Cleveland Browns. It’s not written in stone, but it is a possibility. The Browns have pretty much had a merry-go-round of players at the quarteback position for the past 11 years. Rumors were already swirling that current Browns quarterback Brady Quinn would be dealt to another NFL team.
The new management team in Cleveland was never sold on Quinn and the Brown’s President, Mike Holmgren, said he doesn’t believe in quarterback competitions. Therefore, you shouldn’t expect to see one in Cleveland. What you should expect is for the Brown’s to shop Quinn to see what he is worth. He doesn’t have a whole lot of starts under his belt. He backed up Derek Anderson for two years and was benched this past year after a disappointing start. Top it off with the fact that Seattle sent Quarterback Senaca Wallace to the Browns earlier this week and the writing is now on the wall for Quinn.
So what does all of this mean. It mean’s that at the ripe old age of 35 years, Jake will once again try to lead a team to the promised land. It just won’t be in the promised land of New Orleans.
It took 43 years for the Saints to win their first title, and four weeks for NFL Films and Warner Home Video to complete a commemorative video recapping the best season in franchise history. The video’s official release was set for Tuesday, hours after the premiere at the 95-year-old Prytania Theater in New Orleans’ historic Uptown neighborhood. Jeff Brown, a Warner Home Video executive vice president specializing in TV sports and animation, said orders from retailers were already 25 percent above expectations. The video covers the season game-by-game, with highlights from key plays and in-game audio from players and coaches.
After waiting for 43 years, the patience of long-suffering fans in the Gulf Coast region was finally rewarded. The New Orleans Saints, long the symbol of football futility, enjoyed the greatest year in franchise history. They posted the team’s best-ever regular-season record, then earned their first-ever trip to the Super Bowl. The Saints then completed a storybook finish by upsetting the favored Colts to claim their first Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Relive all the thrilling moments of the 2009 season, from opening day right through their triumph in Miami, with action from every regular-season and playoff game–the cliffhangers, comebacks and unforgettable moments.
