Saints as Bellhops - Photo linked via WWL

The New Orleans Saints arrived at their team hotel and were greeted by their seven team mates that were already in Miami because of their Pro Bowl nominations. This was expected by many. What wasn’t expected was the fact that Drew Brees and company met their brethren in bellhop uniforms. They then offered to help the players with their bags as they got off the team bus.

It is being reported that the Saints team plane landed in Miami about an hour ago. Fullback Heath Evans reported via the blog http://itiswhatitis.weei.com/ that the landing was uneventful other than Jeremy Shockey hooting and hollering the whole way down the plane. The Saints will head to the team hotel. Next up is a 10-10-10 practice at the University of Miami.

That’s right. Quarterback Drew Brees has teamed up with the Heath Evans Foundation along with the Celebrities for Charity Foundation and they are offering fans the opportunity to win 4 tickets to Superbowl XLIV which is being held in Miami, Florida on February 7, 2010.

The winner and whomever he/she should decide to take with them, will be the special guest of Heath and Drew while in Miami. Not necessarily. Statistics show that since the 1970 merger of the NFL and the AFL there have been 20 instances of a team from the opposite conference winning the Superbowl as opposed to the conference team that won the Pro Bowl in the same year. There have been 19 instances of a team from the same conference as the Pro Bowl winner , winning the Superbowl in the same year. This makes it almost dead even. Since 2000 there have been only 4 times that a team from from the opposite conference as the Pro Bowl winner, has gone on to win the Superbowl.

That was the headline and the question asked earlier by Chris Berman on ESPN’s NFL Countdown. Here is a rundown of the answers given by each analyst:

  • Mike Ditka – Believes that Drew Brees can outshine Peyton Manning because Brees has the weapons to do it. He states that Brees has a great coaching staff and states that it is hard to stop what the Saints do because of match-up nightmares.
  •

  • Tom Jackson – He says that it is going to be difficult for Brees to beat Manning because he has never seen a guy better at making adjustments than Peyton Manning. He states that nobody can match what Manning does at the quartback position.
  •

  • Cris Carter – Feels that both defenses will have a hard time stopping either quarterback. He thinks Peyton has the edge because of the “nervousness factor” and because Peyton has been there before.
  •

  • Keyshawn Johnson – Says that Drew Brees can outshine Manning statistically especially with the possibility that Dwight Freeney may not play in the Superbowl due to his ankle injury. However, Johnson thinks it will be hard for Brees to actually “win” the game against Manning because Peyton is so good at engineering drives. But hey, he did say that he “hates” Peyton in a Good Way. (Who Dat Saint knows how you feel Keyshawn)
  • Whodatsaint.com believes that Drew Brees can outshine Peyton Manning in the Superbowl. Drew has the numbers to prove that he can. He has led the league in several statistical categories since joining the Saints organization. This includes leading the league in passing yardage in 2006 and 2008 as well as breaking Ken Anderson’s completion percentage record with a percentage of 70.6. Brees also led the league in 2009 with a passer rating of 109.6 which is almost 10 points better than Manning’s 99.9.

Although this game is being hyped in the media as a battle of the quaterbacks we feel that the game is going to be determined by defensive and special teams play. Our belief is that the Saints have the upper hand in both categories. The Saints defense will harass Manning as they did Favre and Warner. Manning will throw three interceptions. One to a linebacker, one to a corner and of course Sharper has to have one as well. The special teams will step up by scoring a touchdown. I know you are probably thinking that it comes by way of Reggie Bush, but no. Courtney Roby scores on the return.

The Saints have stepped up in big games this year and we see no reason for them to stop now. They score early and score often. They hold the Colts to two touchdowns and three field goals. Who Dat!

Final Score Prediction: Saints 41 Colts 23
