Following the club’s dramatic come-from-behind 34-30 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees and RB Chris Ivory are up for a pair of the league’s weekly awards.

Brees has been nominated for the FedEx Air Player of the Week award. The signal caller posted a season-high 120.3 passer rating, completing 24 of 29 passes (82.8 percent) for 313 yards with two touchdowns, including his game-winning three-yard scoring throw to WR Marques Colston with 31 seconds remaining. In the contest, Brees became the club’s all-time leader in passing yardage.

Fans can vote for Brees on NFL.com/FedEx from 9 a.m. EST on Tuesday through noon EST on Friday to determine the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week. The winners will be announced Friday evening on NFL.com.  New this year, fans will be able to keep tabs on the achievements of their favorite Air & Ground players (and others) with the NFL Milestone Tracker, presented by FedEx.

Fans will be voting for more than their favorite player. As part of the Air & Ground program, FedEx continues its support of Safe Kids USA by making weekly $2,000 donations in each of the winning players’ names. The funding, allocated to local Safe Kids coalitions in that team’s city, is used for pedestrian safety improvements throughout the year, from upgraded crosswalks and safety signs to traffic barriers and educational training.

Ivory has been nominated for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week honors. Ivory carried 15 times for 117yards and two touchdowns, including a career-long 55-yard score in the win. Ivory is the first Saint to rush for 100 yards in multiple games in a season since Deuce McAllister in 2006. He’s the first Saints rookie in club history to run for five touchdowns in a three-game period.

Fans can vote for Ivory on NFL.com/rookies beginning Tuesday at 9 am ET and ending on Friday at noon ET to determine the PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK. The PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK will be announced Friday evening on NFL.com/rookies.

After the regular season, five players will be nominated for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year honors.  Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com/rookies throughout the month of January.  The winner will be announced at a press conference at Super Bowl XLV in North Texas.

Its guest speakers are always inspiring (last year, ironically, it was Indianapolis Colts’ QB Peyton Manning), but this year’s speech by New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees may be the most-highly anticipated in the history of Acadian Ambulance’s Annual Paramedic Luncheon.

Its guest speakers are always inspiring (last year, ironically, it was Indianapolis Colts’ QB Peyton Manning), but this year’s speech by New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees may be the most-highly anticipated in the history of Acadian Ambulance’s Annual Paramedic Luncheon.New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees will take the microphone Thursday, May 20, as the guest speaker at Acadian’s Annual Paramedic Luncheon at the Cajundome Convention Center.

Brees led the Saints to their first-ever Super Bowl appearance and 31-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts this year, in the process earning Super Bowl XLIV MVP honors. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl four times in his career – with the Chargers in 2004 and the Saints in 2006, 2008 and 2009.

Additionally, Brees was recently selected by voters to be on the cover of EA’s Sports Madden 11 NFL video game.

Acadian will recognize the work of its staff at the annual luncheon and honor the 2010 Medic of the Year, Eddie Domingue of Houma. The invitation-only luncheon’s main guests are Acadian’s employees; the convention center seats about 1,500, with more than 1,100 of the seats filled by Acadian’s staff.

What’s the best thing about being a video game quarterback as opposed to playing the position in real life?

Nobody better to ask than “Madden NFL 11″ cover boy and Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees.

“No pain,” Brees says with a laugh. “I’m not worried about getting hit in ‘Madden.’ It’s a little different when you’re out there for real and you have to be aware of who is trying to knock your head off. If I get hit in the game, all that happens is my controller shakes.”

But there are some things Brees loves about the real NFL that he thinks can never be captured in virtual form.

“I think the atmosphere of a game, where you step out on the field and you hear the crowd noise, is really special,” Brees says. “Then when you throw a touchdown and run into that end zone and jump on a teammate … that interaction and that atmosphere is obviously something where you have to be there to feel.

“But to me, being in ‘Madden’ is just another way to connect with the fans. It helps educates the fans about the plays, the players, the teams. I have a Wii, and when my son gets older, it’s going to be fun to be able to play the game together. I have a feeling he’s going to be a gamer pretty soon.”
